Are you worried about the lack of healthy meals your loved ones are eating?
Giving care long distance is challenging. It is hard to focus on your life when you worry long distance about providing healthy meals.
When Jenny’s parents became frail, she realized they were not eating foods they should. She knew both had special diets, and eating junk food or skipping meals was not healthy for them.
Finding out your parents are not eating as healthily as they should is hard. They may still be independent, yet are starting to have problems making healthy choices. Or maybe just having problems getting out to shop.
And long distance is not the only reason sometimes you can’t provide healthy meals for your parents.
What can you do to provide healthy food choices when you can’t do it yourself?
- Find someone locally to help. You need to find someone you trust. Just like hiring a caregiver, there are potential legal and financial issues to consider. Consider professional legal and accounting advice. You may need to consider checking references, etc.
- Have groceries delivered. Some grocery stores and chains will deliver food. You’ll want to check out your options. Obviously this is an option if your loved one is able – and willing – to cook. You may need to place the orders and arrange payment.
- Have meals delivered. One option in many communities is Meals On Wheels or a similar program. Check out your options, and be sure to check out menus. You want to be sure they will accommodate any special diets and sensitivities.
Your situation and that of your loved ones will determine which of these options is best. There’s no right or wrong answer. And available options may vary depending upon your loved ones’ location.
And there are now also services that deliver fresh meals nationally. Some hire special chefs and dieticians to create healthy meals. So it’s almost like having a chef and dietician in your loved ones’ home!
Wouldn’t it be great to arrange healthy meals for your loved ones?
Prepared by chefs and dieticians?
With special diets available? At a reasonable price?
There’s a family-owned business that specializes in meals for seniors. Even in hard-to-reach areas of the lower 48 US states.
