Many are independent well past usual retirement…
My mother made one of her last quilts in her mid 80s.
She designed the quilt, I cut it out and helped her piece it, and she quilted it. It was beautiful. She donated it to the local hospice, where it was raffled off. And won by a lovely young woman.
Seniors daily give to their local communities. And this month their efforts are being recognized.
In 1963 President John F. Kennedy established May as Senior Citizens Month. President Jimmy Carter in 1980 changed the name to Older Americans Month. Each year a different theme is emphasized. The 2010 theme was “Age Strong! Live Long!”
In 2011, the theme is “Older Americans: Connecting the Community,” emphasizing the enormous contribution seniors make to their communities.
Often seniors are thought of as serious, and maybe not as fun or active as younger generations. As this video shows, many are active and have healthy senses of humor. And aren’t quite ready for senior care…
